Dieppe Raid

Landing operation by the Western Allies - mainly Canadian troops - against the port of Dieppe in northern France. The aim of the attack was to seize the city of Dieppe. In this way, the Royal Air Force (RAF) wanted to get the Luftwaffe to deploy strong forces at Dieppe, which were then to be intercepted and destroyed by British fighter pilots. In addition, a landing operation should be rehearsed under combat conditions and the reaction of the German command should be tested.
