Inaugurated in 1981, the museum is located in the heart of one of the strategic locations of the Battle of Normandy: the city of Bayeux, the first city to be liberated from mainland France on June 7, 1944. In the heart of the city's "memory" called Liberty Alley, the museum is close to the War Reporters Memorial Garden and the British War Cemetery.
