Mémorial de Caen


Das Mémorial de Caen dokumentiert die Operation Neptune mit der Landung der Alliierten in der Normandie und die folgenden Kämpfe zur Befreiung der Normandie von der deutschen Besatzung. Dieses Ereignis wird in die europäische Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts vom Ersten Weltkrieg bis zum Mauerfall eingebettet. Das Museum wurde über dem früheren Befehlsbunker des Kommandanten der deutschen 716. Infanteriedivision errichtet.

The Mémorial de Caen documents Operation Neptune with the Allied landings in Normandy and the ensuing battles to liberate Normandy from German occupation. This event is embedded in European history of the 20th century from the First World War to the fall of the Berlin Wall. The museum was built over the former command bunker of the commander of the German 716th Infantry Division.
